Granite & Natural Quartzite
Granite Sealer and Stain Resistance
Due to its granular construction granite is porous to some degree and the lighter the granite, the more porous it tends to be. To prevent this tops are treated with an appropriate sealer in the factory prior to installation. Although some materials may need resealing from time to time.
Whilst the sealant we use is extremely effective, substances that are grease or oil based can stain if not wiped up quickly. You may notice darker areas on the granite where water has been left to stand and has been absorbed into the stone; this should disappear as the granite dries out.
Heat Resistance
Granite is extremely resilient against heat and the use of hot rods or grids are not required for pans and dishes off the hob or out the oven. The exception to this is pans that are glowing with heat or chip pan fires etc.
Samples
The samples shown are indicative of the material only and with granite being a natural product, there will be variations in shade and composition which is normal. We always recommend you come and view the slabs prior to template and manufacture.
Chips & Scratches
Care should be taken with gritty deposits on the underside of boxes etc as this can scratch the surface of the granite, however; normal usage should not cause damage to the worktop. We do recommend the use of chopping boards, as although it is unlikely that you will cut into the granite, on some plain granites (such as Black) you may notice faint scratch marks and you will find that you will blunt your knives.
Quartz
Stain Resistance
Quartz is not porous and does not require sealing. A mild multi-purpose detergent can be used for normal stains, but for extra stubborn spills a scouring pad may be used. Bleach can also be used but rinse off immediately after use.
Heat Resistance
Although Quartz is an extremely hard-wearing material, we recommend the use of a pan stand or metal trivet for anything that has come off the hob or out of the oven. The material is only durable up to 150 degrees and will otherwise burn.
Scratch Resistance
Quartz materials are highly scratch resistant but avoid the use of sharp objects directly onto the surface.
Granite & Quartz
Worktop Only Change
You will need to remove all temporary or existing tops prior to templates being taken. We do not remove worktops and are unable to take an exact template with them in place. Unfortunately, we cannot remove sinks, hobs, taps or other appliances either and you must ensure the carcasses are suitable for granite worktops. If you are unable to do this, we are happy to offer some recommendations.
Templates
We would ideally like the customer to be present when we template so all can be agreed prior to manufacture to avoid any disappointment or misinterpretation of expectations.
Length of Worktops & Joints
Slab sizes will vary due to current available stock, but the maximum length of a slab would be approximately three metres. However, for technical reasons such as: support, access and fragility they will have an impact on the length. The position of joints, if required, will be confirmed on template.
Routine Maintenance
We recommend cleaning the worktops with hot soapy water with a mild detergent and then buff up with a dry cloth or chamois leather for a smear free surface. We also supply Just Granite Professional Cleaner which is available to purchase directly from us.
Sealer & Surface Resistance
Natural and man-made stone can be susceptible to staining, therefore be vigilant and wipe away any spills as quickly as you can. They can also be prone to acid damage such as: lemon juice, vinegar, fruit juices and staining from red wine.
Upstands
These can be 20mm or 30mm thick and is up to the customer which they prefer. Windowsills, backsplashes and end panels are also available to give your kitchen worktop that finishing touch.
Guarantee
Our worktops carry a standard three-year guarantee (on completion of the card/electronic form) for normal use, which can be extended to cover the lifetime of the kitchen. Our friendly staff are always here to help and advise any way we can.
